I never thought my parents would be such a big part of our baby making process. Usually parents don't want to know how it all happened. They just want to play with their grandchild and pretend the stork brought the baby into the world.
Ever since our conception process has become a group effort, my parents and sister (and aunts) have become an integral part of it. Since Noah and I are not rubbing our parts together to make a baby, there are jobs for everyone! The most important role my parents have played is that of providing unconditional love and support and home-cooked food. Though my dad tries to give advice, he shouldn't, because he hardly understands the science behind all that we're doing. It's been a learning process for all of us, and I'm not sure it's completely normal that my dad knows when I get my period or my mom knows Noah's sperm count on a given day.
TMI, right?
But one thing I can say is this journey has made us a lot closer. It's helped us all understand the human body more intimately and what a miracle making a life really is.
Here is a clip of how my parents have tried to do whatever they can to help me feel better. After I had a laparoscopy to rule out endometriosis and attempt to fix up the one tube that appeared to be blocked, I was in bad shape. Physically, I felt like I'd been run over by a train. Mentally, I was panicked that the end result of the procedure was that both tubes appeared blocked and IVF seemed to be our only option. Emotionally, I was alone, as Noah was out of town for work. My sister and parents stepped in to do whatever they could to help. This was their best shot.
